Boxing Day Bath – What to do in Bath after Christmas Day?

If you are lucky enough to be in Bath on Boxing Day then here’s few ideas to walk off those mince pies, or at least justify a few more!

 
So, whether you are staying as a guest in one of our fabulous luxury rentals during the festive season, are lucky enough to be resident here in Bath or are visiting for the festive period, we’ve a few ideas of things to do in Bath on Boxing Day – until it’s time for the New Year parties!

Take all the family for a walk along Bath’s beautiful National Trust the Skyline Walk this Boxing Day. This can be a challenging walk and not suitable for buggies or wheel-chairs but for those who can your head and your heart will thank you for making the effort and getting the very best views of the city. Take in the best views of the city of Bath in a truly spectacular way.

Grab the bikes and get active along the Sustrans cycleway network along The Bath Two Tunnels Circuit which includes the UK’s longest walking and cycling tunnel (1,672 metres, or just over a mile) and also takes in the Tucking Mill Viaduct and the Dundas Aqueduct along this 13 mile route. Perfect for a post-Christmas cobweb blow-away!

Walk or cycle the opposite direction towards Bristol on the Bristol to Bath cycle path, a tree lined cycle way wide enough for runners, walkers and those on two wheels. This Sustrans route is also traffic free and works well for buggies and wheelchairs as it is flat and even. Take the train to cool Bristol and walk back to Bath the full 13 miles on foot to explore more. The path goes past Bitton home to working steam engines which is also convenient for toilet stops, snacks and drinks.

Equally interesting is the canal path that runs right from the centre of the city at Widcombe all the way to Bradford-on-Avon passing several pubs and cafes. The route is looked after by the Canal River Trust and is a good flat 10 miles to neighbouring Bradford-on-Avon where you mooch the small boutique shops and catch the train back to Bath on a frequent service.

Our final Boxing Day suggestion is to head up Little Solsbury Hill, made famous by local resident Peter Gabriel for another glorious long view across the city and more. The top of the hill, some 191m altitude is managed by the National Trust and is the site of an Iron Age hill fort.
